ABOUT
Synonym is the new name for our Gabriëlskloof Chenin Blanc, part of the Gabriëlskloof Range. We chose this name because for us, Chenin Blanc is synonymous with South African wine. Synonym was made to be approachable and enjoyed upon release, showcasing the pure expression of Chenin from vineyards in Bot River and the Swartland.
CLIMATE & VITICULTURE
The 2026 vintage was shaped by a notably dry season that drove one of our earliest harvests. An intense ripening period was followed by early rains and cooler weather, which led to a slower-paced ripening, allowing fruit to be picked at ideal freshness. Careful irrigation and the vines’ strong reserves delivered healthy yields with excellent concentration and lively natural acidity.
VINIFICATION
Fruit sourced 60% from the Swartland and 40% from Gabriëlskloof. The wine was fermented and then matured in barrel and tank (50% each), spending four months on the lees, with the barrel-aged portion in oak for 12 months.
TASTING NOTE
White peach, green citrus and oatmeal combine on the nose along with white flowers and lemongrass. The palate is lightly viscous and textured, defined by candied ginger and lime cordial cut into by the bracing freshness of quince, green apple skin and a puckering, stony acidity. A long finish leaves traces of greengage, meringue and light honey.
