Elodie 2025

ABOUT

The Landscape Series is a range of six wines that showcase our finest vineyard sites, together with some special old vine treasures and aims to give an honest representation of the elements that make them unique. We wanted the labels to reflect this approach and commissioned artist Rod Freemantle to capture the spirit of these landscapes. He painted each label using pigments he created by grinding rocks from the vineyards where these grapes were grown, mixing them with natural binders to create earth-based paints. Each label literally contains the ground beneath the vines—a true representation of the diverse landscapes that shape these wines.

VINEYARD NOTES

Fruit was sourced from four old vine bushvine sites in the Swartland: Rooidraai (planted 1981), Nuweland (planted 1981), Jakkalsfontein (planted 1986) and Serdyn (planted 1989) — among the oldest Chenin Blanc plantings in the region. The 2025 season was cooler than 2024, with above-average winter rainfall giving way to a near-five-month dry spell from September. Consistently low night temperatures kept ripening slow and even, yielding a fresher, more floral expression than 2024, while retaining the concentration and complexity that define Elodie.

WINEMAKING

All fruit was whole bunch pressed and 100% wild fermented. Fermented and matured in older 400-and 500L barrels (with about 10% new oak). The wine spent nine months on its lees before blending and bottling.

TASTING NOTE

A taut and focused vintage showing aromas of white peach, litchi, white flowers and meringue while the palate is complex and coiled, with pineapple and honeycomb against a background of wet stone, tart sorrel and verbena. A crunchy and mineral spine is supported by a comforting, weighty mid palate combining clay and honeycomb before a salty finish. Pure and linear, this is a wine that will age beyond 2035.
