Madame Lucy's Cap Classique is part of our Projects Range, our space to experiment, embrace risk and push the envelope of winemaking and ageing. The wine is named after our French Toy Poodle, Lucy, whose playful spirit inspired the project from the start. The 2023 vintage is a blend of 64% Chardonnay, drawn from Hemel & Aarde Ridge and Ceres, and 36% Pinot Noir from our own Gabriëlskloof vineyards. 6,500 bottles were produced.
Harvest 2023 was marked by low yields and early ripening, giving wines of excellent concentration and freshness, particularly in Chardonnay, which forms the bulk of this blend.
All grapes underwent gentle, extended whole-bunch pressing to preserve delicate aromatics. The juice was naturally fermented and aged for six months before blending and bottling in August 2023. Second fermentation occurred under crown cap, and the wine rested on lees for 30 months before disgorgement with zero dosage in March 2026.
Golden delicious apples, ruby grapefruit and a leesy, toasted croissant note lead the aromas, while the palate shows quince, more citrus, beurre noisette and honeycomb. A bone dry, textured palate adds length and bite alongside a fine, creamy mousse. Complex, opulent and finely textured, and ready to drink.
