The Blend is part of the Gabriëlskloof Estate range of wines, together with our Rosebud, Sauvignon Blanc, Chenin Blanc and Syrah. This range offers a selection of boutique-style wines that always over-deliver on quality and value.
Vintage '23 was characterised by low yields and early ripening, resulting in wines of excellent concentration and marked freshness, particularly in the whites. Late-season rain delayed ripening on reds, leading to challenges, but increased flavour development and elegance.
Following careful hand-picking, bunches were destemmed and transferred to fermentation tanks using a gravity system, allowing for whole berry fermentation. Naturally fermented and aged 18 months in older French barrique. The components of the wine are Cabernet Sauvignon (62%), Malbec (10%), Merlot (10%), Cabernet Franc (9%), and Petit Verdot (9%).
Graphite, mulberry and cassis lead on the nose ahead of damson, lavender and eucalyptus leaf. The palate is plush and generous, with a density of black and red fruits supported by the gentle sweet-spice of oak and grippy tannins. The finish is long and dry, with a liquorice-like savouriness.
