Blend 2021

The Blend is part of the Gabriëlskloof Estate range of wines, together with our Rosebud, Sauvignon Blanc, Chenin Blanc and Syrah. This range offers a selection of boutique-style wines that always over-deliver on quality and value.

Climate & Viticulture

The 2021 harvest stood out for consistently cooler weather throughout the growing and ripening period, leading to slower ripening and increased flavour development.

Vinification

Following careful hand-picking, bunches were destemmed and transferred to fermentation tanks using a gravity system, allowing for whole berryfermentation. Naturally fermented and aged 18 months in older Frenchbarrique. The components of the wine are: Cabernet Sauvignon (70%),Cabernet Franc (13%), Merlot (11%) and Malbec (6%).

Tasting note

Intense black fruits alongside cured meats and leather make this a dense and concentrated vintage with a structure to match. Lifted floral notes and savoury, wet earth aromatics add elegance, while ripe mulberries, cassis and liquorice lead a pure fruited palate that has a gentle spiciness from cloves and star anise. Finely integrated tannin and robust alcohol make this a hefty vintage, drinkable in youth and with legs to age.
